The largest aviation service and repair centre in Central and Eastern Europe has been built at the Mošnov airport. The centre was ceremonially opened in early March 2008.
The giant hangar, belonging to JOB AIR-CENTRAL EUROPE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE from the Ostrava-based Geofin holding, is located near to the airport and can accept large aircrafts for repairs and maintenance work. The Chairman of Geofin, Daneš Zátorský, explained: “There is great demand for services and repairs to civilian aircrafts in the Central European region, and our customers will include major European airlines.”
The company has invested 1.05 bn crowns in the centre, which it plans to recoup within 5 years. For this unique project, the investor was also able to take advantage of investment incentives. The project won second prize in the prestigious Investor of the Year competition.
Initially, Boeing 737 aircraft will fly to Mošnov for regular maintenance and repairs.The hangar is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is a true giant, with a length of 146 metres, a width of 80 metres and a height of 34.5 metres. During last year, the company recruited sufficient qualified staff to open the repair centre, and currently employs around 130 mechanics. Within the first year of operations, the company plans to take on a further 100 or more mechanics. The target staffing level is around 400 people.
